Look closely, and you will see why I think of Montecristi as the place where straw becomes art. The Breton’s striking diagonal weave runs unbroken all the way out through its four-inch brim, and the open pattern is not just for show – those tiny gaps between the straws let air move freely, so you stay as cool as you look. Wear one to a garden party, and it is the hat everyone remembers. I only have a handful, in a choice of vintage ribbons or classic black.
