Fitzgerald never did tell us what hat Gatsby wore – but a man like that would have worn something unmistakable, the kind everyone in the room quietly wishes were theirs. So I built one to fit the legend. It takes two separate blocks, a great deal of patient handwork, and a trick or two I keep to myself. Next to my Classic Fedora, it sits taller in the crown, carries a wider brim and ribbon, shows deeper dimples, and finishes with a clean crease straight down the center.
